The Mullen Mouth (straight bar) Hard Rubber pelham is one of the least severe of all the pelhams.
The lack of joint in the mouthpiece removes the nutcracker action and the bar is slightly curved to help alleviate tongue pressure. The mullen mouth pelham is good for horses that are reluctant to take the contact in a french link or jointed pelham.
The rubber mouthpiece is very gentle on the horses mouth. Pelham bits attempt the same results as a double bridle, but using only one bit. They work on the points of control in the mouth, plus the poll and curb groove.
The result of pressure on the curb groove, is a pivoting action, causing the head to tilt into the conventional ‘on the bit’ postition. Pelham bits are good for strong horses. Can be used with roundings or with 2 reins 18mm mouthpiece
