The Shires Avignon breastplate is the classic 3 point breastplate made of beautiful leather with distinctive stitching detail and elastic inserts at the shoulder.
For the new Shires Equestrian Avignon range, Shires have personally selected hides from the best tanneries that specialise in producing vegetable tanned leather without chemicals. For this range, Shires have avoided the use of hides with blemishes, flaws and marks. Both these factors give the Avignon range of leather a beautiful finish with a soft, supple feel and a breathable and flexible nature. Over time, and with use, Avignon leather will gain more character whist remaining robust and strong.
The Avignon hunting breastplate consists of a neck and wither strap that is adjustable on both sides of the shoulder, a chest strap at the bottom which runs through the horse’s front legs and attaches to the girth, and two straps at the top which attach to the D-rings of a saddle. Both the wither strap and chest plate are padded for extra comfort.
The hunting breastplate helps to prevent the saddle from slipping, and comes with a running martingale attachment that is buckled onto a ring at the chest.
Because the hunting breastplate is attached to the D-rings of the saddle it is not as reliable as equipment attached to the saddle by means of the girth. Therefore, the breastgirth is sometimes preferred on cross-country.
