The copper mouth eggbutt snaffle is a single jointed bit. The single joint creates a nutcracker action within the mouth, so is considered to be more severe than the french link or lozenge.

The copper mouthpiece, however, increases salivation and gives the horse a warm metal within his mouth to increase acceptance of the bit.
